Have you seen a recent BBC Horizon documentary called 'Playing God'? It's a thought provoking and somewhat sinister documentary on modern genetic engineering technology. One of the projects introduced was a lab in California that has genetically created a yeast that consumes sugar and releases oil as its waste product. This is where people are placing their hopes for a petroleum future it seems.. It doesn't make much sense for me when you consider how much sugar would have to be produced (on land currently used for food production) to sustain it.
Tanya, there are so many daft ideas they are coming up with instead of diverting some of that energy to come with some real solutions and face up to the fact that we have to change the system and our way of life.
